Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources
Bahlil Lahadalia held a face-to-face meeting with Russian Energy
Minister Sergey Tsivilev on Tuesday (15/4/2026). This meeting serves as
a follow-up to the high-level discussions between President Prabowo and
Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin the previous day.

In the forum, both parties discussed concrete opportunities for
energy cooperation that can be immediately followed up, particularly the
certainty of crude oil and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) supplies.
Russia expressed its readiness to support Indonesia’s energy resilience,
including supplies of oil and natural gas as well as storage. The
meeting was also attended by representatives from several Russian energy
companies, including Rosneft, Ruschem, Zarubezhneft, and Lukoil.

“Today, I have just finished a bilateral meeting with the Russian
Energy Minister to follow up on the agreements from the discussions
between President Prabowo and President Putin. Alhamdulillah, what has
been agreed upon has yielded quite good results, where we can increase
our crude reserves. In addition, we will also be able to obtain LPG,”
said Bahlil, quoting his press release on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

Bahlil emphasised that the cooperation is being explored through
government-to-government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B) schemes,
which are expected to provide certainty for the availability of national
energy reserves, particularly for crude oil and LPG in Indonesia.

On the other hand, Bahlil conveyed that Indonesia is open to
expanding the scope of collaboration with Russia, including the
development of crude storage, long-term supplies of crude oil and LPG,
nuclear exploration, and cooperation in the minerals sector.

“We want all of this to truly provide certainty for national energy
resilience,” he stressed.

Bahlil assessed that the meeting’s outcomes send a positive signal
for strengthening national energy resilience amid uncertain global
dynamics. He views the partnership with Russia as an important option,
given the country’s substantial energy production capacity and its
experience in the oil and gas industry.

“Once again, I am pleased today because of President Prabowo’s
directive to follow through thoroughly. And alhamdulillah, once again I
say that insyaallah we can achieve good outcomes,” Bahlil explained.

Amid the volatility of the global energy market influenced by
geopolitical factors and production fluctuations, the government is
making maximum efforts to find alternative sources. Russia is considered
to hold a strategic position as a reliable energy supplier and potential
partner for long-term cooperation. In this bilateral meeting, Russia
expressed its readiness to assist Indonesia in strengthening energy
resilience.

“As a strategic partner, we are ready to collaborate, especially in
the provision of oil and gas, storage, or electricity in this case
nuclear power plants,” explained Sergey Tsivilev.

The Indonesian government views Russia as an important partner in
supporting stability and safeguarding economic interests and growth.
This diplomatic step underscores Indonesia’s commitment to remaining
active, constructive, and oriented towards national interests on the
global stage.
",
