        "content": "<p>Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has\nformed a coal procurement team to address PT PLN (Persero)\u2019s challenges\nin meeting its power plant fuel requirements. \u201cIn order to supervise\nprimary energy so this does not continue, we have formed a procurement\nteam. PLN, the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal, and BPKP,\u201d\nBahlil stated during a working meeting with Commission XII of the House\nof Representatives at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on\nMonday. Bahlil explained that PLN\u2019s total coal requirement reaches 154\nmillion metric tonnes per year. Of that amount, the government has\nassigned coal companies to supply PLN with a total volume of around 190\nmillion tonnes. \u201cOf the 190 million tonnes, around 150 to 160 million\ntonnes have been confirmed, and 134 million tonnes have been\ncontracted,\u201d Bahlil said. With 134 million tonnes already under\ncontract, approximately 20 million tonnes remain uncontracted to meet\nthe 154 million tonne requirement. However, Bahlil acknowledged that PLN\nfaces obstacles in securing medium-calorie coal because the selling\nprice to PLN is low. \u201cI must admit that within the 134 million tonnes,\nPLN needs medium-calorie coal, which is of better quality,\u201d Bahlil\nnoted. He added that medium-calorie coal is becoming increasingly\nscarce, and companies are reluctant to supply it to PLN at the low\nprice. Companies sell coal to PLN based on the domestic market\nobligation (DMO) price of US$70 per tonne, while the reference coal\nprice (HBA) for the first period of June 2026 is set at US$121.83 per\ntonne. \u201cSo, the selling price to PLN leaves nothing for the company.\nThat is the problem,\u201d Bahlil said. To address this issue, Bahlil has\nreceived instructions from President Prabowo Subianto to coordinate with\nPLN, the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal at the ESDM Ministry,\nand BPKP to ensure PLN\u2019s coal supply. \u201cThis team is being formed so\nthere is no deceit among us. We are tired of saying one thing, hearing\nanother, writing something else, reading differently, and doing yet\nanother thing. I know there is something, but let it be. We all\nunderstand, and the most important thing is that we provide the best\nservice for the country,\u201d Bahlil concluded.<\/p>",
