Chairman of the Golkar Party, Bahlil Lahadalia, has responded to\nseveral voices doubting President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s ability to mediate\nbetween Iran and the United States and Israel. According to Bahlil,\nGolkar as the governing coalition party believes Prabowo can be a\npeacemaker.<\/p>\n
Bahlil said that regardless of what others say, Golkar remains\nsteadfast in believing that Prabowo can mediate between Iran and the\nUnited States-Israel. \u201cEveryone is entitled to their opinions; that is\none of the consequences of a democratic country. But for Golkar, who\nunderstands and believes in the abilities of Mr President Prabowo, God\nwilling we are very confident in his capability,\u201d he said at the Golkar\nParty Central Executive Board (DPP Golkar) offices in Jakarta on Friday,\n6 March 2026.<\/p>\n
The Energy and Mineral Resources Minister went on to recount his\nexperiences accompanying Prabowo on overseas visits during February. He\nassessed that Prabowo has an emotional closeness with other heads of\nstate during trips to the United States, the United Kingdom, Jordan, and\nthe United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n
From that relationship, Bahlil is optimistic that Prabowo could apply\nthe same approach when mediating Iran with the United States-Israel. \u201cSo\nfor those who do not know Mr President Prabowo, that is normal, but for\nus in Golkar who know Mr President Prabowo, God willing we are very\nconfident in his ability to conduct political communication among world\nleaders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Former Deputy Foreign Minister, Dino Patti Djalal, has described the\nidea of Prabowo heading to Tehran to be a mediator between Iran and the\nUnited States as not realistic. Prabowo\u2019s readiness was conveyed by the\nMinistry of Foreign Affairs a few hours after Israel, together with the\nUnited States, again attacked Iran\u2019s capital Tehran on 28 February\n2026.<\/p>\n
Dino offered at least four reasons: first, the United States rarely\nagrees to be mediated by a third party when launching military strikes.\nDino believes U.S. President Donald Trump does not want Indonesia\ninvolved. He argues that Trump is currently blinded by a desire to\ntopple the Iranian government.<\/p>\n
The second reason, he says, is that the Iranian government has\nrecently not been close to the Indonesian government. Dino notes that in\nthe last 15 months, President Prabowo has not visited Iran or met\nPresident Masoud Pezeshkian.<\/p>\n
Third, even if Prabowo were ready to fly to Tehran to act as\nmediator, it is unlikely that U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S.\nSecretary of State Marco Rubio\u2014as the parties launching the attack on\nIran\u2014would be willing to visit Tehran.<\/p>\n
The final reason is that mediation would require Prabowo to meet\nIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the main party behind the\nattack on Iran. Dino emphasised that this is not feasible politically,\ndiplomatically, or logistically.<\/p>\n
