The General Election Commission (KPU) of Badung Regency, Bali, has\nofficially partnered with the Badung Regency Scout Branch (Kwarcab) to\ncultivate a politically conscious young generation. This collaboration\nwas realised through the Youth Democracy Camp held at Pondok Jaka,\nSangeh Village, on Saturday (20\/6). The event, scheduled to run until\nSunday (21\/6), carried the theme \u2018Badung Scouts with Character: Towards\na Democratic, Smart, and High-Integrity Young Generation\u2019. Sixty senior\nScout members from across Badung Regency attended as participants. The\nevent was also attended by the Chair of the Bali Provincial KPU, I Dewa\nAgung Gede Lidartawan, commissioners from the Badung KPU, administrators\nof the Badung Kwarcab, and representatives from the Badung Regency\nEducation, Youth, and Sports Office.<\/p>\n
Badung KPU Chair I Gusti Ketut Gede Yusa Arsana Putra asserted that\nthe Scout movement is an ideal laboratory for generating innovations and\nnew ideas related to elections. \u2018Scouting is a place for young people to\ncreate, and from there, new breakthroughs regarding elections can\nemerge. That is why we initiated this Youth Democracy Camp, to\naccommodate that potential,\u2019 said Yusa Arsana Putra during the opening\nceremony. Similar appreciation was expressed by Bali Provincial KPU\nChair I Dewa Agung Gede Lidartawan, who recalled the essence of the word\n\u2018pandu\u2019 (guide) in the three-stanza national anthem \u2018Indonesia Raya\u2019 as\na vital pillar of the nation. \u2018Scouting teaches independence,\ndiscipline, and integrity. I am confident that these Scouts, equipped\nwith this scouting education, are capable of safeguarding democracy in\nthe future, whether as election organisers or as national leaders,\u2019 said\nLidartawan.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Badung Regency Kwarcab Chair I Ketut Suiasa assessed this\ncollaboration as a crucial political education medium for its members.\nAccording to the former Badung Deputy Regent, early political education\ngreatly determines the future quality of Indonesian democracy. \u2018By 2029,\nthese young people, who are currently around 16 to 17 years old, will\nbecome first-time voters and political actors. They need political\nknowledge and in-depth understanding to become smart voters, because a\nvoter who does not understand the meaning of democracy is essentially an\nempty voter,\u2019 explained Suiasa. He also warned of the negative impact if\nthe young generation becomes indifferent to the nation\u2019s political\ndirection. \u2018If the young generation is apathetic, sceptical, and\nallergic to their democratic rights, we have failed as a nation. All\npolicies and life structures, including the price of basic necessities,\nare born from political decisions,\u2019 he stressed. As the culmination of\nthe event, the Badung Regency KPU and Badung Kwarcab officially signed a\nCooperation Agreement (PKS) and declared a joint commitment titled\n\u2018Scouts as Pioneers of Smart Voters\u2019. This step also affirmed the\nScouts\u2019 active role in the Nayakottama Prayojana Pioneer Scout Service\nUnit, marked by the symbolic pinning of the \u2018Smart Voter\u2019 badge. Over\ntwo days, the Youth Democracy Camp featured various interactive\nactivities, ranging from troop assemblies and election-themed chants to\na pioneering competition for building a Polling Station (TPS) model, and\na casual discussion session called \u2018Ngerujak Pedas\u2019 (Chatting to Invite\nSmart Voters).
