        "content": "<p>Baduis bracing for rituals<\/p>\n<p>BANTEN, West Java: Badui tribal people in Banten, West Java,<br>\nare preparing for their annual traditional rituals.<\/p>\n<p>As the harvest season is nearing, Badui tribal people in the<br>\nhinterland of Kenekes, Cibeo and Cikeusik, are fasting and<br>\nclosing areas to outsiders, including government officials.<\/p>\n<p>They will fast, a part of their rituals called Kawalu, until<br>\nit is time for them to harvest their paddy fields and forests.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman for the Banten regency government Tony Fatony told<br>\nAntara Saturday the religious ritual would end with people<br>\noffering agricultural products to the regent.<\/p>\n<p>They will visit the regent to report on their home soil&apos;s<br>\n&quot;prosperity&quot; and &quot;stability&quot;. Usually they offer the regent<br>\ncoconuts, palm sugar, glutinous rice, bananas and handicrafts.<\/p>\n<p>The Badui people in Banten, about 100 kilometers west of<br>\nJakarta, preserve their &quot;primitive&quot; culture proudly. They travel<br>\non foot and are renown for their honesty.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It has never been heard that they steal or cheat others,&quot;<br>\nTony said.<\/p>\n<p>A police officer in Lebak said they are not worried that the<br>\nBadui refuse to obtain identity cards &quot;because they are highly<br>\ncivilized and of high integrity&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We have not heard of Baduis stealing, robbing, torturing or<br>\ncommitting any other crimes,&quot; he told Antara.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, West Java military commander Maj.
