Badminton draw issued for Olympics<\/p>\n
HONG KONG (JP): The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games
\nhas listed 192 badminton players who qualified for the Games this
\nJuly, Steve Kearney, the committee official in charge of
\nbadminton competition, announced here yesterday.<\/p>\n
The list referred to the world rankings issued on April 1,
\nwith Indonesia's Joko Suprianto topping the men's singles,
\nfollowed by Denmark's Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen at second, and
\nHariyanto Arbi of Indonesia in third place.<\/p>\n
In the women's doubles, the first five places went to China's
\nYe Zhaoying, Indonesia's Susi Susanti at second, Bang Soo-hyun of
\nSouth Korea at third, Lim Xiaoqing of Sweden fourth and Camilla
\nMartin of Denmark fifth.<\/p>\n
Other names topping the list are familiar: Indonesia's Ricky
\nSubagja and Rexy Mainaky in the men's doubles, South Korea's
\npartnership of Gil Young-ah and Jang Hye-ock in the women's
\ndoubles and South Korean duo of Park Joo-bong and Ra Kyung-min in
\nthe mixed doubles.<\/p>\n
In addition, six wild-card entries have been added. The six
\nnames are Kenneth Erichsen of Guatemala, Mario Carulla of Peru
\nand Oscar Brandon of Suriname in the men's division. In the
\nwomen's division, the wild card entrants are Rhonda Cator of
\nAustralia, Diana Koleva of Bulgaria and Andrea Odor of Hungary.<\/p>\n
The International Badminton Federation has decided to allow
\neach country to field only three singles and pairs of each gender
\nin the Olympic badminton competition, slated from July 24 to Aug.
