Badminton body delays coach reshuffle plan<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI)
\nhas been working hard to improve shuttlers' performances in
\ninternational events. One way was to replace the women's coaches
\nwith men's coaches in women's sectors.<\/p>\n
Apparently the idea remains an idea as PBSI has decided to
\ndelay the plan due to unprepared human resources.<\/p>\n
PBSI vice chairman, Agus Wirahadikusumah, said on Friday that
\nPBSI chairman, Subagyo Hadisiswoyo, was reconsidering the plan to
\nset up the right training method and put the right people in the
\nright place.<\/p>\n
\"It's about being human. Men's coaches need conditioning time
\nto adapt with the situation where they must coach women's
\nshuttlers. Some are not ready to face such a situation. It's
\nabout their psychological barrier,\" he said.<\/p>\n
PBSI plans to replace women's singles coach Liang Chiusia and
\nher assistant Khoo Mei Hwa. While another women's coach, Retno
\nKustijah, and assistant, Lanny Tedjo, have resigned before the
\nplan was applied.<\/p>\n
Tangkas club coach Hendry Saputra has been nominated to take
\nover Retno's job.<\/p>\n
Chiusia herself declined to give any comment to rumors saying
\nher superior, national training director Christian Hadinata, had
\nyet to give any details.<\/p>\n
\"My boss has yet to say anything to me. How can I comment on
\nsomething I don't know,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Retno herself has declined that her resignation was because of
\nthe replacement.<\/p>\n
\"No, I just want to concentrate on my athletes in the club in
\nJaya Raya. I feel more needed there,\" she said.<\/p>\n
But a source in PBSI said Imelda Wiguna would stay at her post
\nas the women's doubles coach despite PBSI's plan to replace all
\nwomen's coaches.<\/p>\n
Christian will remain at his post as the training director but
\nhe will also work as the men's and women's doubles supervisor.
\nTwo other supervisors will be in charge of the men's and women's
\nsingles and the mixed doubles.<\/p>\n
Agus said PBSI wanted to send 14 second string shuttlers to
\nthe 20th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Brunei Darussalam from
\nAug. 7 to Aug. 15 because it was part of the organization
\npriority.<\/p>\n
\"The young shuttlers must have the chance to get more
\nexperience in international tournaments, especially in the
\nmultisports events,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Agus said some top players were concentrated on several world-
\nclass tournaments including the five-star Grand Prix series.<\/p>\n
PBSI will likely send Jeffer Rosobin, Ronny Agustinus, Johan
\nHadikusuma, Flandy Limpele, Eng Hian, Agung Wahyu and Halim
\nHeryanto on the men's side and Ellen Angelina, Meiluawati, Yuli
\nMarfuah, Cynthia Tuwankotta, Etty Tantri, Emma Ermawati and Vita
\nMarissa on the women's side.<\/p>\n
But Jeffer said he still had no idea if he would play on the
\nteam and in individual events.<\/p>\n
\"PBSI plans to observe our performances in the Malaysia and
\nThailand Opens but apparently Johan failed in the selection. I
\nthink Ronny and I deserve the chance to become the team's
\nbackbones in the individual event,\" he said.<\/p>\n
PBSI aims to win five of the seven golds on offer. National
\nshuttlers will likely take the golds from the men's and women's
\nteam events, the women's singles and doubles and mixed doubles
\nevents.<\/p>\n
State Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Agung Laksono, who
\nvisited the center on Friday morning, expressed hope that
\nnational shuttlers would retain Indonesia's supremacy in the
