We are continuing to worry about military reshuffles in this
\nreform era. Many problems have brought about friction in the
\nIndonesian Military. It's unavoidable that several officers have
\nrisen to higher positions, and not only as regional military
\ncommander.<\/p>\n
But some think the rise of officers is negative. One of the
\nviews emerging from the community is the accusation is that
\nthrough the promotions in the military President Abdurrahman has
\ntaken a \"de-Wiranto-nization\" step.<\/p>\n
The basis for this perception is reasonable if viewed only
\nfrom the point regarding which actors must be moved from those
\nstrategic positions. At a glance, the de-Wiranto-nization
\naccusation is reasonable.<\/p>\n
What we worry about is whether the reason for the replacement
\nof the commander of the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad)
\nis related to the disclosure of alleged past corruption in the
\nKostrad institution. There is talk that the said commander was
\nreplaced because he disclosed the case, which allegedly involved
\nprevious commanders.<\/p>\n
Actually, the step to disclose this case is an act of amar
\nmaruf nahi mungkar (favoring the virtue and shunning the evil).
\nUnfortunately, some people think this disclosure will reveal
\nshamefulness. People will not only consider the individuals as
\nbad but also the institution. So measures have been taken to save
\nthe institution and the individuals.<\/p>\n
If this is left unsolved, the reform agenda containing the
\nchanges of the way we think and how we do things won't be
\nsuccessful. Now let's get back to basics, to our own inner
\nconscience. If that step is right or wrong, only our conscience
\ncan answer. And usually the answer is in our hearts, not
\nexpressed.<\/p>\n
