Bandung City Police are investigating a case of alleged nurse\nnegligence that nearly resulted in a baby being handed over to\nnon-biological parents at Rumah Sakit Hasan Sadikin (RSHS) in\nBandung.<\/p>\n
The head of criminal investigation at Bandung Police, AKBP Anton,\nstated that they have requested information from the hospital to delve\ninto the possibility of criminal elements or violations of standard\noperating procedures (SOP) in the incident.<\/p>\n
\"We are currently in the investigation stage, have coordinated with\nrelevant parties, and will report the results of this investigation,\"\nAnton said in Bandung on Tuesday (14\/4).<\/p>\n
Police officers, according to Anton, have visited the scene and\ncoordinated with the hospital to gather data and initial statements.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, Anton admitted that he cannot yet confirm whether the\nincident occurred due to administrative negligence or intentional\nactions.<\/p>\n
\"We are still in the investigation stage and will examine the SOP\nimplemented at the hospital,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Anton stated that they will review surveillance camera footage (CCTV)\nand seek statements from relevant parties, including the medical staff\non duty at the time.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the police will summon related parties for\nclarification to fully uncover the chronology of the event.<\/p>\n
Previously, a mother named Nina Saleha shared her experience of a\nnurse\u2019s negligence at RSHS Bandung via TikTok on Wednesday (8\/4).<\/p>\n
Nina, who had just given birth, claimed she nearly lost her baby in\nthe treatment room at RSHS Bandung.<\/p>\n
Nina recounted that her baby initially required care in the NICU at\nRSHS Bandung. After treatment, she received news from the hospital that\nher baby could be discharged.<\/p>\n
While waiting for the administrative process, she and her husband\nwent to eat.<\/p>\n
She did not worry about her baby at that time because she trusted it\nwas in the care room guarded by nurses.<\/p>\n
\"I had a bad feeling. I just went back upstairs to check on the\nbaby,\" Nina said when contacted on Thursday (9\/4).<\/p>\n
Upon arriving at the waiting room, Nina was shocked to see her baby\nbeing carried by someone who was not a nurse.<\/p>\n
Nina said she was emotional and quite hysterical upon seeing her\nchild. She took her child while asking the person carrying the baby.<\/p>\n
\"Why are you carrying my baby? Then that woman seemed confused. I\nknew it was my baby from the blanket and clothes I prepared,\" she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Seeing the commotion, the nurses gathered. Nina asked the nurses why\nthe baby was in someone else\u2019s hands. She received an unsatisfactory\nresponse from the hospital staff.<\/p>\n
\"They said I was called but didn\u2019t come. But I asked again, how could\nit be carried by someone else? That\u2019s all their answer,\" Nina said.<\/p>\n
Nina stated that in the baby room, there was no security personnel on\nguard. She expressed disappointment with the service provided by the\nnurses at RSHS.<\/p>\n
\"I want to report to the police. I don\u2019t want this incident to happen\nagain and affect others,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, RSHS Bandung has issued a sanction in the form of a first\nwarning letter to the negligent nurse who handed the baby to\nnon-biological parents.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the nurse has been removed from public health services\nand deactivated.<\/p>\n
\"The nurse has been deactivated, transferred to a non-patient-facing\ndepartment, and given a SP1,\" said RSHS Director General dr. Rachim\nDinata Marsidi, Sp.B., Finac., M.Kes, when contacted via text message on\nFriday (10\/4).<\/p>\n
Rachim said that RSHS Bandung will undergo an evaluation by the\nMinistry of Health, and he is prepared to accept it. He even mentioned\nthat after the incident, RSHS management had reported it to the Ministry\nof Health.<\/p>\n
\"We at RSHS are ready for evaluation by the Ministry of Health and\nhave reported this incident to the Ministry of Health,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Rachim explained that they will also evaluate all nurses and ensure\nfurther training regarding SOP for handing babies to parents during care\nat RSHS.<\/p>\n
