Babies die due to 'salmonella' sweep<\/p>\n
BANYUWANGI, East Java: The salmonella virus is blamed for the
\ndeaths of seven newborns last week in the Blambangan district, a
\ndirector of a hospital treating the babies said.<\/p>\n
Solichin of the Blambangan General Hospital said the virus was
\nidentified from blood tests conducted on the victims.<\/p>\n
The virus is mainly associated with, among other things,
\nvarious types of food poisoning and acute gastrointestinal
\ninflammation.<\/p>\n
The babies, ranging from one day to seven days old, died in
\nthe hospital's baby care room.<\/p>\n
Solichin acknowledged that the room was not in good condition
\nas its location was near a trash bin.<\/p>\n
\"Therefore we will repair all hospital facilities and
