284 officials' urine tested<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: The Tangerang municipal administration carried out
\na urine test on Monday on its 284 high-ranking officials in an
\nattempt to limit drug abuse at the municipality office.<\/p>\n
\"The test was initially carried out on chiefs of agencies,
\nbodies and offices in the municipal administration,\" said doctor
\nNuriman Mahcyudin, who led a team of four doctors in the test.<\/p>\n
Nuriman, also chief of the municipal health agency, said such
\na test had also to be taken by all administration staff,
\nbeginning next week.<\/p>\n
All civil servants at the administration must be drug-free, he
\nsaid, adding that should any of them be found guilty of using
\ndrugs they would be fired.<\/p>\n
Administration spokesman Herry Kusnadi told The Jakarta Post
\nthat the tests were held following the arrest of Suryadi, head of
\nthe Cipadu Jaya subdistrict office in Tangerang.<\/p>\n
He said Suryadi, who had been fired as subdistrict chief, was
\nfound in possession of ecstasy pills when city police conducted a
\nraid at a discotheque on Jl. Hayam Wuruk, West Jakarta, early

Drug delivery foiled at airport<\/p>\n
TANGERANG: Customs and Excise officers arrested two suspects
\nand foiled the delivery of 53 kilograms of marijuana en route
\nfrom Banda Aceh to Batam at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.<\/p>\n
Customs and Excise chief Jusuf Indarto said on Monday that the
\ndrug had been sent by Azhari in Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh,
\nto Permadi in Batam.<\/p>\n
Azhari sent the marijuana on three occasions in different
\npackages using postal services on June 18, June 19 and June 21.
\nThe deliveries were reported as Grupel root engravings.<\/p>\n
\"Officers in charge at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport's
\ndomestic warehouse became suspicious and examined the packages
\nwith narchotest, a device for testing drugs. The test confirmed
\nthat the packages contained marijuana,\" Jusuf said.<\/p>\n
\"Our officers then carried out a controlled delivery to
\nPermadi's address in Batam but could only arrest Fadly and Deddy,
\nwho were believed to be responsible for the packages.\"<\/p>\n
Both suspects are now in detention at the National Police
\nHeadquarters for further investigation.<\/p>\n
Customs and Excise director general Permana Agung said both
\nsuspects had violated Article 78 of Law No. 22\/1997 on drugs and

Afghan refugees return home<\/p>\n
BOGOR: A total of 166 Afghan refugees, who had been living in
\nthree shelters in Bogor, have returned to Afghanistan with the
\nimproving situation in that country following the establishment
\nof a new government.<\/p>\n
The head of the Bogor Immigration Office, Teuku Sjahrial, said
\non Monday that 86 percent of 193 refugees in Bogor were from
\nAfghanistan, while the rest were from the Middle East.<\/p>\n
\"In general, the refugees wanted to return to Afghanistan
\nbecause the situation has returned to normal,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Indonesia has become a destination country for refugees from

Two injured in a brawl<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Two men were injured and five houses were destroyed
\nin a brawl at Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, early Monday.<\/p>\n
The clash between residents of the community unit (RW) 5 and
\n17 was triggered by some boys from RW 17 who were angry after
\nthey were not allowed to borrow a skateboard from a boy at RW 5,
\nsaid Sardi, a 45-year-old witness.<\/p>\n
Around 50 boys from RW 17 then destroyed five houses at the RW
\n5 triggering the brawl between both units residents until around
\n3 a.m.<\/p>\n
Sr and Tg, who wanted to stop the brawl, were injured but
\ntheir condition was fine after receiving medical treatment at the
\nCipto Mangunkusumo Central Hospital.<\/p>\n
Residents just stopped the brawl after 20 policemen of the
\nTanah Abang subprecinct were deployed and fired a warning shot to

Students join In-Docs Junior Camp<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Eighteen high school students will take part in the
\nIn-Docs Junior Camp on Kelapa Island in Kepulauan Seribu
\n(Thousand Islands) regency from July 1 to July 14.<\/p>\n
The camp is a training program for the students to learn how
\nto make documentary films in a local community to enable them to
\nfind a solution to the community's social problems.<\/p>\n
During the camp, the 18 students will join local teenagers in
\nproducing six documentary series about people's lives on Kelapa
\nisland. The movies will be presented in front of the island's
\nresidents, JIFFest 2002 and broadcast on TV.<\/p>\n
Out of 48 participants, only 18 have qualified to join the
\ntraining based on their essays about existing social problems in
