        "content": "<p>Aztech expansion in Batam<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (Reuter): Multimedia company Aztech Systems is<br>\nplanning to open a second offshore plant in Batam, Indonesia, the<br>\nBusiness Times said.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper quoted Aztech's president Michael Mun as saying<br>\nthe plant would cost Singapore US$20-S$30 million.<\/p>\n<p>Aztech officials were not immediately available for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The plant is expected to begin construction early next year<br>\nand start production by end-1996. Its current Batam plant cost<br>\nover US$30 million and is believed to have annual production<br>\ncapacity of 5.0 million sound and telephone cards and 1.2 million<br>\ncomputer CD-ROM drives.<\/p>\n<p>Capacity in the existing Batam factory would also be increased<br>\nby 10-15 percent, the Business Times said.<\/p>\n<p>Aztech has a third offshore plant, in Dong Guan, China.<\/p>\n<p>The paper also said Aztech is currently evaluating taking<br>\nstakes in a number of companies, including multimedia<br>\ndistributors and retailers and product designers.<\/p>",
