US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that his government is\nawaiting an official response from Iran regarding the 15-point peace\nproposal submitted by the Trump administration. Although informal\ncommunications have taken place, the US still requires clarity on who\nwill represent Tehran at the negotiating table.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe haven\u2019t received it (the official response) yet. Listen, we have\nreceived messages. There have been exchanges of messages and indications\nfrom the Iranian government system, or whatever remains of it, about\nwillingness to discuss certain matters,\u201d Rubio told CNN.<\/p>\n
The internal turmoil within the Iranian regime, shaken by US and\nIsraeli attacks, poses the primary obstacle. Many senior leaders are\nreportedly dead, leaving the US waiting for certainty on who holds the\nauthority to negotiate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWho is the person we will talk to? What will we discuss, and when?\nWhen will we talk?\u201d Rubio emphasised. He added that the response could\narrive \u201canytime,\u201d possibly within the next one or two days.<\/p>\n
Regarding military developments, Rubio affirmed that the United\nStates can achieve its primary objectives in this war without deploying\nground forces. The US is focused on completely crippling Iran\u2019s military\ncapabilities to eliminate its nuclear threat.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will destroy their navy, we will destroy their air force, and we\nwill significantly destroy their missile launchers so they can no longer\nhide behind those things to obtain nuclear weapons,\u201d Rubio said. He\npredicted the war would end in weeks, not months.<\/p>\n
On the deployment of an additional 1,000 personnel to the Middle\nEast, Rubio explained that President Donald Trump must prepare for\n\u201cvarious emergency possibilities,\u201d though he did not detail the\nscenarios.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Rubio urged allies in Europe and Asia to help secure the\nStrait of Hormuz after the war ends. He warned of the potential for Iran\nto impose an \u201cillegal tariff system\u201d on this vital shipping route.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs soon as this ends and our objectives are achieved, one immediate\nchallenge is Iran possibly deciding to implement a tariff system in the\nStrait of Hormuz. This is not only illegal but also unacceptable and\ndangerous for the world,\u201d he clarified after a G7 foreign ministers\u2019\nmeeting in France.<\/p>\n
Separately, the United Nations is forming a task force to ensure the\ndistribution of fertiliser and raw materials continues through the\nStrait of Hormuz to avoid a global food crisis. UN Secretary-General\u2019s\nspokesperson St\u00e9phane Dujarric stressed that this initiative is not\nabout commercial oil traffic but humanitarian aid.<\/p>\n
