The Head of the Jakarta Provincial Health Office, Ani Ruspitawati,\nhas urged the public to remain vigilant when cleaning areas containing\nrat droppings to avoid the spread of Hantavirus.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat needs to be watched out for is when people clean places that\nshow signs of heavy rat infestation; caution is necessary because there\nare several modes of transmission,\u201d Ani stated in West Jakarta on\nMonday.<\/p>\n
She noted that the virus can spread if rat droppings, saliva, or\nurine mix with airborne particles and are subsequently inhaled.\nFurthermore, transmission can occur through direct contact with\nHanta-contaminated secretions or via rat bites.<\/p>\n
To mitigate these risks, Ani advised that anyone cleaning areas with\nrat droppings must ensure proper ventilation. \u201cThe area should first be\nsprayed with disinfectant. In a household setting, we can use common\nhousehold bleach as a disinfectant before cleaning the droppings,\u201d she\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Previously, she also encouraged the public to implement Clean and\nHealthy Living Behaviour (PHBS) to prevent the spread of Hantavirus.\n\u201cWash your hands before and after activities. Additionally, if you are\nin places that are potentially contaminated or working in dirty\nenvironments where rats may be present, do not forget to wear masks and\nother protective equipment,\u201d Ani added.<\/p>\n
