The Jakarta regional administration allowed the<br>\nland to be cultivated, but later unknown parties built and sold<br>\nhouses to locals.<\/p>\n<p>Now with projects planned for the land, the settlers are being<br>\nforcefully evicted from their houses, which is no solution at<br>\nall. The authorities should have driven off those who first built<br>\nthe houses illegally and duped innocent people into buying them.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, the government should act as a mediator between the<br>\noccupants and the legitimate land owners. It should also pay<br>\ncompensation to the evictees because of its negligence in<br>\nallowing the sale of the illegal houses.
