Simamora, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>PT Aventis Pharma, the largest foreign pharmaceutical company<br>\noperating in Indonesia, said it was investing US$5 million to<br>\nupgrade its production facility in a bid to strengthen its<br>\noperations here.<\/p>\n<p>President of Aventis Pharma Homayoun Madjrouh said on<br>\nWednesday that the new investment would help the company boost<br>\nits production capacity by more than 30 percent to meet rising<br>\ndemand both in the domestic and export market.<\/p>\n<p>\"We do believe that demand in pharmaceutical products will<br>\ncontinue to increase both in the domestic and export market,\"<br>\nHomayoun told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>The project is scheduled for completion in August 2003.<\/p>\n<p>The company, which is located in the Pulo Mas area of North<br>\nJakarta, focuses on cardiology, oncology, infectious diseases,<br>\narthritis, allergies and respiratory disorders, diabetes and<br>\ndisorders related to the central nervous system.<\/p>\n<p>The company said that around 90 percent of its drugs were for<br>\nthe domestic market, while the remaining 10 percent were destined<br>\nfor the overseas market.<\/p>\n<p>Their main export markets were in Pakistan, Cambodia, Vietnam,<br>\nMalaysia and Singapore with total sales of $5 million last year.<\/p>\n<p>Aventis said that its total sales reached Rp 400 billion ($45<br>\nmillion) in 2001, an increase of 14 percent from the previous<br>\nyear.<\/p>\n<p>The company expected sales this year to be even higher.<\/p>\n<p>Aventis Pharma is a company resulting from the merger of PT<br>\nHoechst Marion Roussel Indonesia and PT Rhone-Poulenc Rorer last<br>\nyear.<\/p>\n<p>With the merger, Hoechst Marion Roussel Indonesia and Rhone-<br>\nPoulenc Rorer were dissolved and all their production activities<br>\nwere taken over by Aventis.<\/p>\n<p>Homayoun also expressed his confidence over the investment<br>\nclimate in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\"To the people of Indonesia, our $5 million investment shows<br>\nour confidence in the country as this is a long-term investment<br>\nin the future. We believe in our role in the future of Indonesia<br>\nand are making proactive investment that reflect our long-term<br>\nvision,\" Homayoun said.<\/p>",
