Authorities reject traders' demands<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The authority of Pluit development in North
\nJakarta has refused to fulfill traders' requests for kiosks on
\nthe ground floor of the new Muara Karang market.<\/p>\n
The head of the development authority, Darrundono, told
\ncouncilors on Friday that the placement of the traders is based
\non the type of goods they sell.<\/p>\n
\"It is impossible to fulfill their demands because the new
\nmarket is arranged based on the type of goods. For example, the
\nfirst floor is for jewelry and electronics only,\" Darrundono told
\na member of the City Council's Commission B for economic affairs
\nover the weekend.<\/p>\n
He said the arrangement was aimed at making the new market
\ncleaner and tidier. In this way it is hoped that shoppers will
\nhave a pleasant time in the market.<\/p>\n
Darrundono said if the management fulfilled the traders'
\ndemands the market would not attract many shoppers because it
\nwould end up being as dirty as the old market.<\/p>\n
He said vegetable traders tend do business in the morning and
\nclose their kiosks when their vegetables have all been sold,
\nwhile traders on the upper floors would open their kiosks all
\nday.<\/p>\n
\"The condition would make the market look empty and shoppers
\nwould be reluctant to go there,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The deputy chairman of commission B, Nitra Arsyad, said that
\nbasically the commission understands the decision but he asked
\nthe management to extend the time of the kiosk placement draw
