Australians speak on Aceh's history<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Three Australian historians will present
\ntheir papers during a two-day seminar on Acehnese history, arts
\nand culture to be held here starting Sept. 2.<\/p>\n
Barbara Leigh, Lance Castle and Hendri Chambert Loir will
\nspeak at the seminar, which is part of the \"1998 Acehnese
\nCultural Show\", head of the provincial education office Malik
\nRaden was quoted as saying by Antara here yesterday.<\/p>\n
Malik said the Australian historians expressed interest in
\nreturning to Aceh where they once conducted research on the
\nprovince's culture.<\/p>\n
He said the cultural show, which will also feature the
\nperformances of Acehnese traditional arts, will be the first of
\nits kind in the province.<\/p>\n
He said it aimed to preserve the culture of Indonesia's
\nwesternmost province which has been dubbed the \"Terrace of Mecca\"
\ndue to its devout Moslem populace.<\/p>\n
Indonesian historians who will speak in the seminar include
\nIbrahim Alfian and Hasan Muarif.<\/p>",
