Australian troops hunt terrorists in RP<\/p>\n
AUSTRALIA: Elite Australian troops have joined the hunt for
\nJamaah Islamiyah terrorists in the Philippines, newspapers
\nreported on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Australian agents and Special Air Service (SAS) Regiment
\ntroops were cooperating with Filipino soldiers in the hunt for
\nsenior terrorist figures in the Philippines, said News Ltd.
\npapers citing an unnamed former agent with the peak spy agency
\nAustralian Security Intelligence Organization.<\/p>\n
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer would neither confirm nor
\ndeny the presence of SAS, the shadowy regiment that has
\nspearheaded Australia's combat roles in Iraq and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n
\"I'm not going to go into all the details of who they are, but
\nthere are Australian personnel in the Philippines who are
\nproviding the Philippines police and armed forces with
\nassistance,\" Downer told Melbourne Radio 3AW on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\"We do have some people there from ... various arms of
\ngovernment helping the Filipinos, and have had for quite some
\ntime,\" he added.<\/p>\n
A week after terrorist bombings on the Indonesian island of
\nBali killed 23 people, including four Australians, attention is
\nfocusing on terrorist cells operating in the southern
