Australian School opens soon<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Another school for expatriate children will open
\non July 15 in Jati Murni, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The Australian International School, which will cater students
\nfrom preschool to junior high, will be using Australian texts as
\nthey are readily adaptable to a wide variety of environment and
\ncultural settings, said Penny Robertson, the principal.<\/p>\n
\"The school will adopt the National Curriculum Guidelines of
\nAustralia,\" said Robertson.<\/p>\n
She added that the school will provide individualized programs
\nfor short-term expat students on distance learning to enable them
\nto undertake their studies in a school environment.<\/p>\n
\"We are also different from other international schools here
\nin the sense that we encourage learning by collaboration and
\ncooperation by mixing students of different learning abilities in
\none class,\" she added.<\/p>\n
By mixing students with learning difficulties with extremely
\nbright ones the school encourages students to learn together,
\nRobertson explained.<\/p>\n
She added that the method has been practiced in Australia and
\nproven successful in increasing the average achievement in one
\nclass.<\/p>\n
Annual school fees range from US$4,250 for pre-school students
\nto $7,900 for grades seven to 10, plus a $150 non-refundable
\napplication fee.<\/p>\n
The school, set up by Yayasan Australian International School,
\nwill open registration on Friday and Saturday next week. It's
\nboard of directors includes business and community
\nrepresentatives as well as a former Indonesian ambassador to
\nAustralia, Sabam Siagian.<\/p>\n
According to Robertson, the school will meet the growing need
\namong expatriates for an Australian curriculum.<\/p>\n
She said between 40 and 50 students, half of them Australian,
