        "content": "<p>Australian MPs visit KPU<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Australian Parliament delegation paid a visit to<br>\nIndonesia's General Elections Commission (KPU) on Thursday to<br>\nwitness on-site preparations for the coming 2004 direct<br>\npresidential election here.<\/p>\n<p>During the visit, the delegation was briefed by KPU chief<br>\nNazaruddin Syamsuddin and members Chusnul Mariyah and Hamid<br>\nAwaluddin on the new system to be applied in the direct election,<br>\nmethods to allocate legislative seats and the verification<br>\nprocess of political parties.<\/p>\n<p>The delegates arrived in the country on Monday and have had<br>\nseveral meetings with the country's high-ranking officials,<br>\nincluding Vice President Hamzah Haz.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia is slated to organize the first direct presidential<br>\nelection ever in 2004, with some 124 million people expected to<br>\nvote. --JP<\/p>",
