        "content": "<p>China has made \u2018rapid progress in the transition to clean energy\u2019 and\nis \u2018genuinely leading the world\u2019 in the green transition, according to\nthe head of a leading Australian transport and logistics company, who\nurged the world to look East for green development. \u2018I am a huge fan of\nChina!\u2019 Christine Holgate, CEO of Team Global Express, told Xinhua with\nvisible enthusiasm in a recent interview in Perth, the capital of\nWestern Australia. \u2018I think their achievements are very important\nbecause people admire (them) and want to see a real example that\nactually works,\u2019 she said. \u2018Ten years ago or so, no one would have\npredicted this would happen, but the transformation has been so rapid,\u2019\nHolgate added. A frequent visitor to China with many business partners\nthere, Holgate has long admired the country\u2019s commitment to green\ndevelopment. Holgate revealed that, as one of the largest delivery\nnetworks in Australia and New Zealand, Team Global Express is currently\ntrialling a large-scale fleet of heavy electric vehicles with assistance\nfrom the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. She stressed that Australia\nshould look to China for proven strategies, and that the lessons extend\nbeyond just electric vehicles. \u2018The Chinese government has made a very\nconcerted effort. They cut taxes, waived vehicle number plate fees, and\neven invested heavily in infrastructure to support electric vehicle\ncharging. We in Australia still have quite a way to go,\u2019 she said. \u2018Now,\n(China\u2019s) new energy vehicles are starting to come in, backed by\nincreasingly advanced technology and large-scale production. Australia\ncan leverage that mass production from China. It allows us to really\naccelerate the adoption process,\u2019 she continued. Holgate shared what she\nhas learned from two major Chinese transport companies about how they\nuse artificial intelligence to plan vehicle space and routes. \u2018It is not\njust about electrification. As we go through that process, we have to\nfigure out how we can do things smarter and more efficiently,\u2019 Holgate\nstressed. Holgate also said that Chinese companies are leading in using\nsocial media to understand consumers. \u2018If we can apply that thinking and\nthose processes to heavy, large-scale infrastructure companies, it will\ndeliver better outcomes for customers.\u2019 As a veteran of the logistics\nindustry, Holgate is equally impressed by China\u2019s efforts to use\ne-commerce to alleviate poverty and achieve balanced regional\ndevelopment. She sees a direct parallel for Australia, where 28 per cent\nof the population lives in regional areas and often pays higher prices\nfor goods. She said this is \u2018about delivering a sustainable future for\nour country.\u2019 \u2018The emergence of cross-border e-commerce has allowed many\nAustralians to enjoy the benefits of lower costs for a wide range of\nproducts, and it has actually really helped Australian mums and dads\namid the global cost-of-living pressures,\u2019 Holgate said.
