Australian attacked at JSX by mistake<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): An Australia national suffered a light injury on
\nthe back of his head after being hammered in the lobby of the
\nJakarta Stock Exchange (JSX) building in South Jakarta on Tuesday
\nby a local businessman, who mistakenly identified the victim as
\nthe one who had defrauded him of Rp 200 million.<\/p>\n
The victim, Laurence Grant Carey, 52, received medical
\ntreatment at MMC hospital in Kuningan, South Jakarta and was
\nquestioned later at the South Jakarta police precinct, where Go
\nTek San, 34, was being detained.<\/p>\n
Police officers at the precinct said that they are still
\ninvestigating the case.<\/p>\n
Tek San, who lives at Vila Kapuk Mas housing complex, told
\nreporters that he thought the Australian was Jhon.<\/p>\n
\"I gave Jhon some Rp 200 million in a foreign currency in 1998
\nand -- under an agreement -- asked him to double the money at the
\nstock exchange,\" he said.<\/p>\n
But Jhon disappeared. Then he was told that Jhon was working
\nfor a firm at the JSX building.<\/p>\n
\"I tried to force him (Laurence) to return my money, but he
\nrefused,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He then hit the victim with a hammer, which he just bought
\nfrom a nearby kiosk on Jl. Sudirman.<\/p>\n
According to Laurence's friends, the Australian is a partner
\nat financial consultants, Ernst and Young: Hanadi, Sarwoko and
\nSandjaya.<\/p>\n
A security guard, Sudradjat, recalled that Laurence did
\nnothing at first, but screamed after the sudden attack. (asa)<\/p>",
