Australia supports RI's antipolio drive<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Australia has announced that it will provide A$1 million
\nand a technical expert to help Indonesia in its polio
\nimmunization campaign, the Australian embassy in Jakarta
\nannounced.<\/p>\n
"Australia's contribution, provided through the World Health
\nOrganization (WHO), is helping cover the operational costs of
\nadministering the vaccine. We are working closely with all levels
\nof the Indonesian Government and UNICEF (United Nations
\nChildren's Fund) to respond to the outbreak and have provided an
\nexpert in immunization logistics, Ms Ann Kempe, to work with WHO
\nin Jakarta," Australian Ambassador to Indonesia David Ritchie
\nsaid in a press release.<\/p>\n
Last week, Ambassador Ritchie took part in the house-to-house
\npolio immunization campaign in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
"The Australian Government's latest contribution (A$1 million)
\nto help prevent the spread of polio in Indonesia is evidence of
\nour continuing close bilateral relationship," Ritchie said during
\nhis house-to-house visit.<\/p>\n
Australia has long supported immunization campaigns in
\nIndonesia. Since 1995, over A$2.5 million has been contributed to
\nthe mass vaccination of children in various Indonesian provinces.
\nThe campaigns have included polio and measles vaccination
\ntogether with Vitamin A supplementation. -- JP<\/p>",
