Australia looks for local talent<\/p>\n
SURABAYA, East Java: Australia's Black Swan Theater Company is
\nplanning to invite Indonesian puppeteers, particularly from East
\nJava, to give all-night performances at the Perth Festival in
\nearly 1998, the company's director said here Thursday.<\/p>\n
\"There are no all-night puppet shows in Australia. We wish to
\norganize some at the week-long Perth Festival in Western
\nAustralia,\" said Michael Lovric at a one-day seminar on shadow-
\nplay puppetry, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Lovric said he wanted to contact traditional Javanese
\npuppeteers, called dalang, to see if they were interested in
\ngoing to the festival.<\/p>\n
There would be another arts festival in Sydney in July and
\nAugust 1997, he said adding that he hoped dances from Java and
\nBali could perform there.<\/p>\n
Djarianto, the chairman of the Association of Indonesian
\nShadow Play Puppeteers, said he welcomed the invitation and would
\nrecommend some well-known dalang to the theater.<\/p>",
