        "content": "<p>Australia, Indonesia to tie up on transport<\/p>\n<p>CANBERRA (AFP): In another sign of closer bilateral ties,<br>\nAustralia announced yesterday an agreement with Indonesia to<br>\nincrease cooperation on transport issues, including transport<br>\ninfrastructure development and aviation security.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Minister Laurie Brereton said a memorandum of<br>\nunderstanding signed this week with Indonesian Minister of<br>\nTransportation Haryanto Dhanutirto, demonstrated Australia&apos;s<br>\ncommitment to developing further cooperative links on transport<br>\nissues.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Transport infrastructure development, safety and efficiency<br>\nare critical to both our countries,&quot; Brereton said in a<br>\nstatement.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;As close neighbors, it is important that we cooperate on<br>\ntransport issues.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Among other issues in the framework agreement are moves toward<br>\nelectronic commerce in maritime transport, air safety accident<br>\nand incident investigation, education and training, and research<br>\nand development.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement followed a call by Haryanto to foreign<br>\nenterprises, including Australian companies, to bid for up to 11<br>\nbillion U.S. dollars of transport infrastructure development in<br>\nIndonesia over the next five years.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a trade conference in Melbourne on Tuesday,<br>\nHaryanto, who has special responsibility for non-road<br>\ninfrastructure development such as ports and airports, said his<br>\ngovernment wanted investment through joint ventures with state-<br>\nowned companies.<\/p>\n<p>Australia is currently the seventh largest investor in<br>\nIndonesia in terms of the number of projects, although investment<br>\nis still largely concentrated in the mining sector.<\/p>",
