        "content": "<p>Aussie TV gaining foothold<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): More and more Indonesians are tuning in to the<br>\nAustralia Television channel which is beamed to the country by<br>\nsatellite, the network announced yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>An independent study conducted by Survey Research Indonesia<br>\nfound that in just over 18 months of operation, Australia<br>\nTelevision has become the fifth most watched of the 24 foreign<br>\nsatellite services, just behind CNN International which has been<br>\non much longer, the announcement said.<\/p>\n<p>Australia Television is a subsidiary of the government-owned<br>\nAustralian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) which also owns Radio<br>\nAustralia, a popular network among Indonesians.<\/p>\n<p>The study in nine Indonesian urban centers revealed that<br>\nAustralia Television is received by 75 percent of Indonesian<br>\nhomes that own satellite dishes. Eighteen percent of those<br>\ninterviewed had watched Australia Television&apos;s prime time &quot;News<br>\nUpdates&quot; in the Indonesian language and five percent had watched<br>\nAustralian Television yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Estimates of the number of houses with satellite dishes in<br>\nIndonesia in 1991 range from 600,000 given by industry to 1.3<br>\nmillion by Satlindo, the company that owns the Palapa B2P<br>\nsatellite.<\/p>\n<p>Using the conservative estimate of 600,000, with an average<br>\nhousehold figure of five people, then Australia Television is<br>\navailable to three million people in Indonesia, it said.
