        "content": "<p>Aussie firm enters RI tourism business<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): PT Banten Tourism Development Corp. has set up a<br>\njoint venture with Axiom Properties Ltd. of Australia to build<br>\ntourism facilities at the Tanjung Lesung tourism resort, Banten,<br>\nWest Java.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Commissioner of PT Banten Tourism Sudwikatmono said the<br>\njoint venture agreement was signed here Thursday by Dany<br>\nIskandar, the executive director of PT Banten Tourism, and David<br>\nPringle, the managing director of Axiom Properties.<\/p>\n<p>The signing was witnessed by Minister of Tourism, Post and<br>\nTelecommunications Joop Ave, Australian Ambassador to Indonesia<br>\nJohn McCarthy, Sudwikatmono and Billy Ibrahim, chief commissioner<br>\nand commissioner of PT Banten Tourism respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Sudwikatmono said that the joint venture -- called PT Tanjung<br>\nLesung Leisure Industry -- would develop around 140 hectares of<br>\nthe 1,500 hectares currently controlled by PT Banten Tourism into<br>\ntourist resorts.<\/p>\n<p>Pringle said PT Tanjung Lesung would build marine parks, piers<br>\nand golf courses on the 140-hectare site with an investment of<br>\nUS$115 million within the next three years. The first phase is<br>\nscheduled to cost $54 million.<\/p>\n<p>\"The piers will start operating in the middle of next year,\"<br>\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Axiom Properties would initially own 21.6 percent of<br>\nthe total joint venture. \"But after a year Axiom will increase<br>\nits share to 49 percent,\" he said, adding, \"The tourism business<br>\nis promising here.\"<\/p>\n<p>Despite the bright prospects, however, investors were not keen<br>\nto invest in the sector because of poor infrastructure in many<br>\nparts of the country, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Pringle said that the government should improve the<br>\ninfrastructure in order to attract foreign investors.<\/p>\n<p>Sudwikatmono said PT Banten Tourism would operate the Tanjung<br>\nLesung resort as part of its 1,500-hectare tourism site.
