Aussie envoy visits E. Timor<\/p>\n
DILI, East Timor: The first secretary to the Australian
\nAmbassador to Indonesia, Bassim Blazey, praised the East Timor
\nadministration Monday for its efforts to maintain political
\nstability ahead of the May 29 general election.<\/p>\n
Blazey was speaking at a meeting with East Timor's governor,
\nAbilio Soares, after his eight-day visit to the province.<\/p>\n
The Australian diplomat visited remote areas like Baucau,
\nViqueque, Bobonaro and Aileu, to look at security and order in
\nthe towns and the progress of Australian-donated projects.<\/p>\n
Blazey is the first foreign diplomat to visit the former
\nPortuguese colony for such a long time.<\/p>\n
Responding to Blazey's call for the provincial administration
\nto maintain the politically favorable conditions until polling
\nday, Abilio guaranteed the coming election would run as smoothly
\nas the previous three.<\/p>\n
East Timor made its general election debut in 1982, six years
\nafter Indonesia integrated the province.<\/p>\n
Blazey also met with East Timor's military commander, Col.
\nMahidin Simbolon, the province's chief of police, Col. Yusuf
