        "content": "<p>Audit agencies coordinate jobs to avoid overlapping<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The Government Audit Agency (BPKP), an internal<br>\ngovernment auditing body, will submit its auditing results to the<br>\nSupreme Audit Agency (BPK) beginning next year to avoid an<br>\noverlapping of jobs, an official says.<\/p>\n<p>\"BPK will not audit the spending of government institutions if<br>\nwe consider BPKP's auditing adequate,\" BPK Chairman J.B. Sumarlin<br>\ntold reporters after meeting with President Soeharto at the<br>\nMerdeka Palace yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>BPKP is assigned by the government to inspect and audit the<br>\nspending of government institutions, including companies owned by<br>\nthe government and local administrations. It then reports the<br>\nfindings to the government. BPK inspects the government's<br>\nspending as a whole and submits its auditing results to the House<br>\nof Representatives twice a year.<\/p>\n<p>Sumarlin said the relationship between BPKP and other<br>\ngovernmental audit bodies on the one hand, and with BPK on the<br>\nother, will be arranged by a system of working mechanisms now<br>\nbeing formulated by the supreme agency with the aim of improving<br>\nthe efficiency and effectiveness of auditing procedures in<br>\ngovernmental institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Besides BPKP, the government also assigns inspectorate<br>\ngenerals to audit the spending of ministries and institutions<br>\naffiliated to it.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are finalizing the formulation of auditing practices and<br>\nhave discussed matters related to it with President Soeharto,\"<br>\nsaid Sumarlin, who is a former minister of finance.<\/p>\n<p>He said BPKP will also improve cooperation with international<br>\nand regional organizations of supreme auditors, such as the 164-<br>\nmember International Organization of Supreme Auditors and the 25-<br>\nmember Association of Asian Supreme Auditors, to increase its<br>\nauditing capabilities.(riz)<\/p>",
