        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2013 The Attorney-General\u2019s Office (Kejagung) has conducted\nfresh raids on dozens of locations in Riau and Medan in connection with\nsuspected corruption offences involving irregularities in the export of\ncrude palm oil (CPO) and derivative products during 2022-2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past one to two weeks, we have conducted raids at dozens of\nlocations in Riau and Medan,\u201d said Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of\nInvestigation at the Special Crime Division of the Attorney-General\u2019s\nOffice, at the Attorney-General\u2019s Building in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that from these raids, investigators are in the process of\nseizing assets belonging to the suspects that have been secured. \u201cAmong\nthese are several plots of land and palm oil processing mills (PKS). We\nare currently conducting seizure procedures. There are also heavy\nequipment, vehicles, and other items,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The raids, he added, are continuing in Riau and Medan. Investigators\nare also examining a number of witnesses there. \u201cWe are not bringing\nwitnesses here to the Attorney-General\u2019s Building, but examining them\non-site because we are conducting raids directly and we need to work\nquickly to prevent evidence from being lost,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>The eleven suspects are charged with violating Article 603 in\nconjunction with Article 20 letters (a) or (c) of Law Number 1 of 2023,\nalternatively Article 3 read together with Article 18 of Law Number 31\nof 1999 concerning Corruption Offences.<\/p>\n<p>The alleged irregularities involved the manipulation of commodity\nclassification for CPO exports, where high-acid CPO was deliberately\nmisclassified as POME (palm oil mill effluent) or PAO using different\nHarmonized System (HS) codes. The manipulation was intended to\ncircumvent the Indonesian Government\u2019s CPO export controls.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects include an official from the Ministry of Industry\u2019s\nDirectorate of Forest Products, a Customs Directorate-General official,\na Pekanbaru Customs Office section head, and the directors or top\nexecutives of nine private companies involved in CPO trading and\nprocessing.<\/p>",
