Indonesia's Attorney General, ST Burhanuddin, has emphasised that the Jaga Desa programme represents the Prosecutor's Office's dedication to guiding village administrations towards transparency, accountability, and freedom from legal deviations, aligning with President Prabowo Subianto's vision for equitable economic development from the grassroots level. The initiative, in synergy with the National Association of Village Consultative Bodies (Abpednas), aims to strengthen democratic values and good governance in villages while protecting village heads from interference by rogue law enforcement officials. Through tools like the Jaga Desa app, village leaders can manage finances securely and report misconduct directly to the Attorney General, fostering a corruption-free environment at the local level.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Attorney General ST Burhanuddin stated
that the Jaksa Garda Desa (Jaga Desa) programme is a tangible
manifestation of the Republic of Indonesia Prosecutor’s Office’s
commitment to safeguarding village governance from all forms of legal
misconduct.

“This programme is a concrete embodiment of our commitment as the
Prosecutor’s Office to continuously guide and provide direction to all
village administrations in a transparent, accountable, and law-abiding
manner,” he said in his speech at the Jaga Desa Award 2026 event in
Jakarta on Sunday evening.

According to him, village development is one of the key focuses of
President Prabowo Subianto’s administration, as outlined in the sixth
point of the Astacita, which emphasises building from the villages and
from the bottom up for economic equality and poverty eradication.

He stated that this vision aligns with the commitment of the National
Association of Village Consultative Bodies (Abpednas), which
collaborates with the Attorney General’s Office through the Jaga Desa
programme.

“Abpednas serves as the frontline in strengthening the role of
Village Consultative Bodies, ensuring that village community aspirations
are channelled while upholding democratic values in villages,” said
Burhanuddin, who is also the Chairman of the Abpednas Advisory
Board.

He further stressed the importance of collective spirit to support
good village governance. He expressed hope that there would be no more
disgraceful acts in village environments, particularly corruption.

After the event, Yandri stated that the Jaga Desa application is one
way to assist village heads in managing finances. With the programme, he
added, village heads can be protected from individuals who disrupt their
performance.

“The response from village heads has been very positive because, in
addition to guidance on financial management, they now feel protected
from rogue law enforcement officials who may have previously harassed or
interfered with their work,” he said.

Yandri also noted that village officials need not worry about the
Prosecutor’s Office supervision through Jaga Desa. On the contrary, he
said, village heads feel pleased.

“The uniqueness of Jaga Desa is that if there are rogue law
enforcement officials engaging in misconduct, such as extortion and the
like, village heads can report directly to the Attorney General without
the knowledge of those individuals. They feel more at ease now,” Yandri
remarked.
",
