        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2013 Indonesia\u2019s National Commission on Violence Against Women\n(Komnas Perempuan) views the violence perpetrated against human rights\nactivist Andrie Yunus as a form of terror, intimidation, and silencing\nof civil society\u2019s critical stance, which is guaranteed and protected by\nthe constitution and various other laws and regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe view threats against human rights defenders as threats against\nall human rights workers, including women defenders who work in sectors\nand scopes that frequently impact women,\u201d said Komnas Perempuan Deputy\nChair Dahlia Madanih when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, prior to the assault, the victim had consistently\nundertaken a series of policy advocacy and human rights defence work,\nincluding advocacy relating to Law No.\u00a003 of 2025 concerning the\nIndonesian National Military (TNI), which also has implications for\nwomen\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Komnas Perempuan member Rr Sri Agustini added that the\ncommission urges law enforcement officers to investigate those behind\nthe attack and take legal action against perpetrators in accordance with\nlegal provisions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThreats, terror, and assault in any form against human rights\nactivists constitute unlawful acts. Therefore, law enforcement must\nimmediately take firm action by investigating those behind the incident\nand taking legal action against perpetrators in accordance with legal\nprovisions,\u201d said Sri Agustini.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus became a victim\nof an attack by unknown assailants who threw acid, causing injuries to\nhis hands and feet as well as visual impairment.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred shortly after Andrie finished recording a\npodcast at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office that\ndiscussed militarism and constitutional review of the Military Law.<\/p>\n<p>The victim, on Thursday evening 12 March at approximately 23:37\nWestern Indonesia Time, was riding a motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I in\nCentral Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Two perpetrators using a motorcycle subsequently approached the\nvictim and threw acid before fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the attack, the victim suffered burns covering\napproximately 24 per cent of his body and was immediately taken to a\nhospital for emergency medical treatment, particularly for the eyes that\nwere exposed to the liquid.<\/p>",
