Atrium closed after clash<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Approximately 150 Perisai Bangsa taxi drivers staged
\na protest at the Plaza Atrium shopping center in Central Jakarta
\non Tuesday, resulting in a clash that damaged the glass entrance
\nto the shopping center and forced the building management to
\nclose up shop for the day.<\/p>\n
The incident came a day after a fight between a Perisai taxi
\ndriver and a plaza security guard, Maruli. The scuffle began when
\nMaruli asked the taxi driver to move his vehicle because it was
\nbacking up traffic.<\/p>\n
A war of words soon followed and Maruli ended up with five
\nstitches in his forehead.<\/p>\n
The management of Plaza Atrium later contacted the taxi
\ncompany, which promised to send some people to the shopping
\ncenter on Tuesday to settle the matter. But the only people who
\nshowed up were protesting taxi drivers.<\/p>\n
The taxi drivers said the plaza's security personnel gave
\npreferential treatment to drivers from other cab companies when
\nit came to dropping off and picking up passengers in front of the
\nshopping center.<\/p>\n
\"The management had turned the case over to the police... The
\nplaza will resume operation on Wednesday,\" the public relations
\noffice of PT Segitiga Atrium said in a statement. --JP<\/p>",
