        "content": "<p>ATMs to be modified<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The technology of teleconferencing, widely used<br>\nin the U.S. and Europe, is soon to be applied by advanced banks<br>\nacross the country for their automated-teller machines (ATMs), an<br>\nexpert said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Iwan Aryasetiawan, country system engineering manager for<br>\nIndonesia of Cisco System, the largest traffic controller of<br>\nInternet service providers here, said the technology would be<br>\napplied during the next three years.<\/p>\n<p>He said a teleconferencing system would allow bank customers<br>\nto converse with bank personnel via a monitor screen about bank<br>\naccounts and credit card balances.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Machines (equipped with a teleconferencing system) will also<br>\nallow the bank&apos;s operator, for instance, to maintain a complete<br>\nview of customers withdrawing cash. In the case of a robbery,<br>\nteleconferencing could prove vital,&quot; Iwan told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Attached to alarm notification (networks) at the nearest<br>\npolice station, through faxes and e-mails, for instance, the<br>\nsystem could instantly notify police of an ongoing robbery.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He said teleconferencing would be part of the &quot;call center<br>\nmanagement&quot;, a multi-functional program for banks to provide<br>\nservices to customers nationwide or worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Iwan did not specify which local banks have applied for<br>\ninstallment of the hi-tech system.<\/p>\n<p>Call center management programs do not possess the Y2K problem<br>\nand vary in cost. The systems cost between US$300,000 and<br>\n$600,000 for a mid-range bank and over $1 million for a large-<br>\nscale organization, Iwan said.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;(The system) will contain a compact integrated system and<br>\nwill be appropriate for banks with global networks, such as<br>\nCitibank or American Express,&quot; Iwan said.
