The Hamzah Batik store in Malioboro, Gondomanan, Yogyakarta, has\nreopened following a recent fire. This is the current atmosphere at the\nstore as it resumes operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe reopened as of yesterday, but for now, only the first and second\nfloors are open,\u201d said a security guard at Hamzah Batik Malioboro, who\nrequested anonymity, when met on Tuesday (6\/10\/2026).<\/p>\n
Based on observations at Hamzah Batik Malioboro around 11:00 WIB, the\ncourtyard area appeared full of tourists, some of whom were sitting\nwhile carrying shopping bags from the store.<\/p>\n
On the first floor, several local and international tourists were\nseen busy selecting batik fabrics and clothing. Meanwhile, on the second\nfloor, which houses accessories and vintage items, some tourists were\npresent, though not as many as on the ground floor.<\/p>\n
However, the staircase leading to the third floor remains closed off\nwith various decorations, and there is a notice stating that the lift is\ntemporarily out of service.<\/p>\n
Looking at the exterior of the store, traces and remnants of the fire\non the third and fourth floors are still visible, although parts have\nbeen cleaned. Debris from the roof can still be seen from the front of\nthe building.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I know about the Hamzah Batik fire, but it\u2019s alright; it seems\nlike it happened a while ago,\u201d said Jehan, a tourist from Medan, when\nspeaking to detikJogja on Tuesday (6\/10).<\/p>\n
\u201cI am buying souvenirs, like keychains. The prices are standard; I\nhave always come here whenever I visit Jogja,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n
Another tourist, Fathul, also admitted to regularly buying souvenirs\nat Hamzah Batik.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a primary destination; it is somewhat difficult to browse\nthrough items at the traditional markets. Here, the selection is more\ncomplete,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is like a department store; it has all kinds of typical Jogja\nsouvenirs. It is like a supermarket, so it is easy to shop,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
detikJogja attempted to seek confirmation from the management of\nHamzah Batik, but the management declined to comment. Efforts were also\nmade to contact the leader of Hamzah Batik, Bagus D Setyawan, via his\nInstagram account, but as of the time of writing, the son of Hamzah\nBatik founder, Hamzah Sulaiman, has not responded.<\/p>\n
As previously reported, the Hamzah Batik Malioboro store caught fire\nin the early hours of Monday (28\/9). The fire is suspected to have\noriginated from the kitchen area on the third floor of the building. Ps\nKasi Humas Polrestim Jogja, Iptu Dani Hasan, explained that the fire\noccurred around 1:30 WIB.<\/p>\n
\u201cA witness and his friend, who were repairing a bathroom on the third\nfloor, heard the sound of something bursting and burning,\u201d Dani said\nwhen contacted on Monday (28\/9).<\/p>\n
The fire was successfully extinguished just before dawn. Dani stated\nthat the cause of the fire is still under police investigation, but he\nconfirmed there were no casualties in the incident.<\/p>\n
