        "content": "<p>Athletes awarded for success and behavior<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The National Sports Council presented a total of<br>\n29 athletes from 19 sports with awards in recognition of their<br>\nachievements and model behavior at a ceremony held yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas Cup hero Hendrawan was included on the list of<br>\nrecipients of Satya Karya Bhakti Olahraga medals, as was fellow<br>\nbadminton player Deyana Lomban, who helped the Indonesian team<br>\nreach the Uber Cup final last May.<\/p>\n<p>The rising star Hendrawan, who played a major role in this<br>\nyear&apos;s Thomas Cup victory, added the Singapore Open title to his<br>\ngrowing list of achievements on Sunday by toppling world number<br>\none Peter Gade Christiansen of Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>Other noted medal recipients were national soccer team players<br>\nIrwansyah and Alexander Pulalo, women&apos;s middle-distance runner<br>\nSupriati Sutono, men&apos;s marathon runner Eduardus Nabunome, women&apos;s<br>\nweightlifting world champion Winarni, female swimmer Catherine<br>\nSurya, who was named best athlete in the 19th Southeast Asian<br>\nGames last year, women&apos;s diver Nani Suryani and men&apos;s spiker<br>\nLoudry Maspaetella.<\/p>\n<p>The award ceremony was held in conjunction with the 53rd<br>\nanniversary of Indonesian independence, which fell yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the council&apos;s honor board, Soraya Perucha, told<br>\nAntara that the selected athletes deserved recognition for their<br>\nachievements, personalities and dedication to their respective<br>\nsports.<\/p>\n<p>Female fencers Silvia Kristina and Sri Ayanti received medals<br>\nfrom the council&apos;s chairman Wismoyo Arismunandar on behalf of the<br>\nmodel athletes.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, Wismoyo asked all<br>\nathletes to take a lesson from the never-say-die attitude for<br>\nwhich their forefathers who struggled for national independence<br>\nwere renowned.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They were exemplary figures who taught us how to cope with<br>\nhuge pressures and refuse to give up,&quot; Wismoyo said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Indonesian athletes could help heal wounds inflicted<br>\nby the manifold crises if they performed commendably in the Asian<br>\nGames in December.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;This year&apos;s Asian Games is of strategic importance.
