        "content": "<p>At the first United Nations forum specifically addressing AI\ngovernance, Indonesia urged that child protection be made a core\nprinciple in the formulation of global artificial intelligence rules.\nUnlike many countries still developing AI policy frameworks, Indonesia\ncame to the forum with practical experience through Government\nRegulation Number 17 of 2025 on Electronic System Governance in Child\nProtection (PP TUNAS). \u201cThis dialogue is an important opportunity to\nbuild inclusive, human-centred, development-oriented global AI\ngovernance, strengthened through international cooperation,\u201d said\nMinister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid in a statement in\nJakarta on Wednesday. She made the remarks while representing President\nPrabowo Subianto at the Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva on\nTuesday (7\/7). In the forum, Indonesia proposed the establishment of a\nglobal coalition that places the best interests of children as a\npriority in the development and use of AI. Indonesia also pushed for\ncross-border regulatory harmonisation and the formulation of\ninternational standards capable of protecting children from algorithmic\nexploitation without hindering innovation and digital transformation.\nTherefore, Indonesia believes that global AI governance must be able to\naddress the various gaps still faced by many countries, ranging from\naccess to cutting-edge AI technology, digital infrastructure, data\ngovernance, and human resource capacity, to financing. \u201cAI must be an\ninstrument of inclusive development, not just a technology enjoyed by\ndeveloped countries,\u201d Meutya stressed. The regulation is designed to\nensure that the use of AI is responsible, transparent, trustworthy, and\nkeeps humans at the centre of decision-making. Indonesia also introduced\nPP TUNAS as an example of good practice in protecting children in the\ndigital space. The regulation, enacted by President Prabowo Subianto in\nMarch 2025, strengthens child protection by restricting access to\nhigh-risk digital platforms for users under the age of 16. This\nexperience demonstrates that national regulation can go hand in hand\nwith technological innovation without hindering digital transformation.\nIndonesia also asserted that global AI governance should be built on the\nprinciple of interoperability, rather than uniformity of rules. Given\nthe varying levels of readiness and development needs in each country, a\nflexible framework with strong protection standards is required. To this\nend, Indonesia encouraged strengthening international cooperation\nthrough capacity building, technology partnerships, access to cloud\ncomputing, the development of AI models based on local languages, and\nfinancing mechanisms that can broaden the equitable distribution of AI\nbenefits for all countries.<\/p>",
