        "content": "<p>The earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) has left Indonesia in\nmourning, particularly amid the commemoration of the 81st Independence\nDay on 17 August 2026. According to data from the National Disaster\nManagement Agency (BNPB), the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck NTT\non Saturday, 15 August 2026, caused dozens of deaths, injured more than\n130 people, and displaced around 5,000 residents.<\/p>\n<p>Chief of Corporate Affairs of PT Astra International Tbk, Boy Kelana\nSoebroto, stated that the theme of the 81st Independence Day, \u2018Indonesia\nBerdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur\u2019 (Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous\nIndonesia), serves as a driving force for Astra personnel in providing\nsustainable contributions. At this moment, humanitarian aid was also\ndistributed to communities affected by the NTT earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The theme of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the\nRepublic of Indonesia this year invites us to view independence not\nmerely as a celebration, but also as a spirit that we continue to keep\nalive through works and contributions. Astra is committed to continuing\nto grow together with the community through collaborations that provide\nbenefits,\u2019 said Boy Kelana in an official statement on Monday\n(17\/8).<\/p>\n<p>As an emergency response measure to the NTT earthquake, through the\nNurani Astra programme, initial assistance was distributed in the form\nof 5,000 basic food packages. In addition to staple food items, Astra\nalso sent four Starlink satellite internet units and power stations to\nrestore and support communication network and electricity supply needs\nat the disaster site.<\/p>\n<p>The logistics distribution was coordinated directly with the\nCoordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs\n(Kemenko PMK), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the NTT\nRegional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and the Ruteng Search and\nRescue Office.<\/p>\n<p>Boy emphasised that this social concern is in line with the company\u2019s\nfour pillars of contribution, covering health, education,\nentrepreneurship, and the environment. One of its main focuses is the\nempowerment of rural communities through the Desa Sejahtera Astra\nprogramme, which has now reached more than 1,500 villages in 35\nprovinces, with benefits felt by more than 3 million people.<\/p>",
