        "content": "<p>Aspac Texmaco to host SEABA championship<\/p>\n<p>Musthofid, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>After winning the national basketball league for the third<br>\nconsecutive year, Aspac Texmaco will likely host a regional<br>\ncompetition in Jakarta next year.<\/p>\n<p>\"It's probable that we will host the Southeast Asian<br>\nBasketball Association (SEABA) championship. We have contacted<br>\nABC (Asian Basketball Confederation) secretary-general (Yoo Chou-<br>\nhok) and he's given the nod,\" Irawan, Aspac president, said here<br>\non Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The SEABA championship is an annual basketball competition<br>\ninvolving the champions from each country grouped in the<br>\nSoutheast Asian region.<\/p>\n<p>Irawan did not give the timetable, but said the event would<br>\nlikely take place between March and June.<\/p>\n<p>Aspac's best run in the tournament got them to third place in<br>\n1997. It fared worse in the 2001 event, ending up sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the prospect of playing the hosts for the 2002<br>\ntournament, Irawan was cautious about the team's prospects,<br>\nsaying that they would simply be looking for a place in the top<br>\nfour.<\/p>\n<p>\"Of course, we want the title or at least the runner-up spot.<br>\nHowever, we will be vying for the top four first before mounting<br>\nanother fight for a possible higher position,\" Irawan said after<br>\na meeting between the team and Aspac patron Sutiyoso, who is also<br>\nJakarta governor, at the latter's office.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Cecep Firmansyah confirmed two foreign players would<br>\njoin Aspac for the next season, but he refused to reveal their<br>\nnames and countries of origin.<\/p>\n<p>Sutiyoso, also chairman of the Indonesian Basketball<br>\nAssociation (Perbasi) hailed Aspac's plan to host the SEABA<br>\nchampionship, saying with a reference to the recent Bali bombing<br>\nincident that the appearance of foreign teams in Jakarta would<br>\nhelp the government in its campaign to restore international<br>\nconfidence in security here.<\/p>\n<p>Aspac beat Mahaka Satria Muda in the final of the national<br>\npremier basketball league (Kobatama) last month to win the title<br>\nfor the fourth time, and for its third time in a row since 2000.<br>\nBefore that it won the trophy in 1997.<\/p>",
