        "content": "<p>Jakarta, VIVA \u2013 General Maruli Simanjuntak revealed his main duties\nafter journalists asked him about holding multiple posts at the State\nPalace on Thursday (15 October 2026).<\/p>\n<p>President Prabowo Subianto formally appointed him Deputy Commander of\nthe Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) at the Presidential Palace in\nJakarta on Thursday (15 October). Maruli is also concurrently serving as\nhead of the National Agency for Border and Remote Areas Management.<\/p>\n<p>His appointment was made under Presidential Decrees No.\u00a0105 and 106\nof 2026 concerning the TNI.<\/p>\n<p>Maruli explained that his workload would now be split between two\nroles. \u201cYes, my workload has become two,\u201d he said with a smile.<\/p>\n<p>He called the move an excellent idea, noting that the border agency\nalready existed. \u201cThe agency is currently under the Ministry of Home\nAffairs. It is being developed further because, over the past few years,\nI have done a great deal of work to improve the economy of people in\nremote areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think this may be the President\u2019s idea: to focus more on the\npeople living in border and remote areas,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that his agency role was to lead the National Agency for\nBorder and Remote Areas Management. \u201cAs Deputy Commander, I will assist\nthe Commander. I think that is what it entails,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated that the agency and its organisational structure were\nalready in place. \u201cWith the added responsibility of managing border\nareas, why not also boost the economies of remote regions? We do not\nalways have the funding ourselves, but we can coordinate with the\nMinistry of Villages and other ministries to improve people\u2019s\nlivelihoods in the regions,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>",
