Asita and Inaca to sign domestic airfare cut deal<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Association of Indonesian Tour and Travel
\nAgencies (Asita) and the Indonesian Air Carriers Association
\n(Inaca) will sign an agreement on implementing rules of allowable
\ndomestic airfare discounts.<\/p>\n
Asita's chairman, Sri Mulyono Herlambang, told The Jakarta
\nPost at his office here yesterday that the agreement, which will
\nbe signed early next month, will focus on commissions and
\ndiscounts provided for the sale of tickets by agents of domestic
\nairlines.<\/p>\n
\"The two associations will encourage each other to fight
\nagainst both airfare and ticket discounting wars,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said the planned agreement will authorize only Asita
\nmembers to sell tickets of the six domestic scheduled air
\ncarriers.<\/p>\n
The six air carriers grouped in Inaca are Garuda Indonesia,
\nMerpati Nusantara Airlines, Mandala Airlines, Sempati Air, Bouraq
\nAirlines and Dirgantara Air.<\/p>\n
Members of Asita have signed an agreement, effective next
\nMarch, which limits discounts for international tickets. The
\nagreement, called \"Plan Save 5,\" aims to end discounting wars
\namong tour and travel agencies. It allows no greater than seven
\npercent discounts on tickets for international flights, compared
\nto discounts of up to 40 percent in the past.<\/p>\n
According to Herlambang, the planned agreement, which will be
\nsigned by him and Inaca's chairman Soelarto, will also include
\nthe maximum commissions given by the domestic airlines. (icn)<\/p>",
