Asian share prices close mixed<\/p>\n
TOKYO (AFP): Japanese share prices closed 1.6 percent lower
\nyesterday while other Asian bourses were mixed, most moving in
\nline with domestic news.<\/p>\n
In Tokyo, the overall market was pressured by futures-led
\nselling together with foreign and retail investor sales, brokers
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Nikkei stock average of the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped
\n332.59 points to finish the session at 20,744.88 while the
\nbroader Topix index of all shares on the first section closed
\n17.07 points lower at 1,584.81.<\/p>\n
In Hong Kong, share prices rose 0.6 percent on buying of
\nshares in HSBC Holdings plc following strong interim profit
\nresults, dealers said.<\/p>\n
The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong's key Hang Seng Index gained
\n63.17 points to finish at 11,134.60.<\/p>\n
In Singapore, blue-chip share prices closed 0.8 percent lower
\nas profit-taking and the absence of institutional buying interest
\napplied the brakes on a four-day rebound.<\/p>\n
The Straits Times Industrials index of leading shares on the
\nStock Exchange of Singapore fell 17.36 points to 2,129.36. The
\nbroader All-Singapore index fell 3.30 points to 538.40.<\/p>\n
In Kuala Lumpur, shares tumbled 1.2 percent, weighed down by
\nselling of Tenaga Nasional Bhd. spurred by Saturday's 16-hour
\nnational power outage, brokers said.<\/p>\n
The Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange's 100-share weighted composite
\nindex fell 12.77 points to 1,093.52.<\/p>\n
In Seoul, the composite price index rose 3.75 points to finish
\nat 828.05.<\/p>\n
In Manila, the Philippine Stock Exchange index fell 32.46
\npoints to 3,121.52.<\/p>\n
In Bangkok, the broad-based Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)
\nindex fell 11.96 points to close at 1,125.48 points. The selected
\nSET 50 index lost 1.09 points to finish at 85.66 points.<\/p>\n
In Sydney, the Australian Stock Exchange's main indicator, the
\nall ordinaries index, dropped 10.8 points to 2,222.9.<\/p>\n
In Taipei, the Taiwan Stock Exchange weighted price index rose
\n183.32 points to 6,266. 98.<\/p>\n
The Financial Times-Stock Exchange index of 100 leading
\nBritish shares was down 4.8 points at 3,783.5.<\/p>\n
Frankfurt's 30-share DAX index was up 1.27 at 2,522.20.<\/p>\n
