        "content": "<p>Asian Internet links<\/p>\n<p>TOKYO (AFP): Telecommunications operators in Japan, South<br>\nKorea, Singapore and Taiwan will build an Internet network<br>\ndirectly linking their service areas by the end of this year, a<br>\nnewspaper report said Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The network, using existing fiber-optic marine cables, will<br>\nenable direct Internet communications among the four robust Asian<br>\nmarkets, instead of hookups via the United States, the leading<br>\neconomic newspaper Nihon Keizai said.<\/p>\n<p>An agreement on the project has been reached by Japan's KDD,<br>\nKorea Tele-Communication Ind. Corp., Singapore Telecommunications<br>\nPte. Ltd. and Taiwan's international telecommunications bureau,<br>\nthe report said.<\/p>\n<p>The partners will also call on telecom operators in Hong Kong,<br>\nChina and Australia to join the Asian Internet network, the<br>\nnewspaper said.<\/p>\n<p>KDD also plans to expand the capacity of its Internet link to<br>\nthe major US telecom operator MCI Communications Corp. to 45<br>\nmegabytes by early next year from the current four megabytes, the<br>\nreport said.<\/p>",
