        "content": "<p>Asian golfers head for Berlin tourney<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Eight Asian amateur golfers from Thailand,<br>\nMalaysia, Chinese Taipei, South Korea and Singapore won berths at<br>\nthe 1995 Berlin Mercedes Trophy world championship in October.<\/p>\n<p>Sixty-four golfers, who also own Mercedes, battled it out at<br>\nBumi Serpong Damai Golf and Country Club on Thursday for eight<br>\nslots in the Berlin tournament. Eight Indonesians qualified for<br>\nthe event.<\/p>\n<p>They were picked at national selection competitions held<br>\nsimultaneously in their home countries last month.<\/p>\n<p>PT Star Motors Indonesia, the Mercedes agent in Indonesia,<br>\nstaged the Indonesian selection tournament on July 6 and 7 at the<br>\nnewly established Riverside Golf Club near Bogor.<\/p>\n<p>The eight Indonesians participating were Mardi Gaharu, Andi<br>\nDjajanegara (Group A winner and runner-up), Santoso Senangsyah<br>\nand Soebiyanto, Eddy Suryaputra and Abdawira Anhar and Bachrum<br>\nBudiman.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It&apos;s a pity that none of them made it into the World Finals<br>\nin Berlin,&quot; Wim Ekel of Fortune PR lamented.<\/p>\n<p>The one-day, 18-hole stroke play tournament used the<br>\nstableford scoring system.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia&apos;s best hope, Mardhi Gaharu, was beaten by a point by<br>\nMalaysian Elmer S.B Tan. Mardhi who scored 36.<\/p>\n<p>The Malaysian&apos;s collected 144 points, beating Singapore by two<br>\npoints for the Challenge Trophy.<\/p>\n<p>The eight Asian golfers eligible for the Berlin World Finals<br>\nare Peera Tantasirin (Tha), Elmer S.B. Tan (Mal), I Yao Chang<br>\n(Tpe), M. Mustapha Madina (Sin), Mrs Chong Suk-kwak (Kor), Chin<br>\nChang-Chang (Tpe), Rosli MD Zain (Mal) and Hee Byung-yoon<br>\n(Kor)(rsl).<\/p>",
