SINGAPORE (AFP): Agence France-Presse has signed a joint
\nventure agreement with three major media groups to launch a
\nspecialized economic and financial news service in Asia, AFP
\nchairman and chief executive Lionel Fleury announced yesterday.<\/p>\n
Shareholders with AFP in the new company, AFX-ASIA, are
\nBritain's Financial Times group, the Japanese group Nikkei, owner
\nof the Nihon Keizai daily, and the Australian Associated Press
\n(AAP) news agency. AFP-Extel News, a joint subsidiary of AFP and
\nExtel Financial created four years ago in London, has also take a
\ndirect participation in the new venture.<\/p>\n
\"AFP thus confirms the major interest it has in specialized
\neconomic news, as demonstrated by its launch of AFX-News four
\nyears ago,\" said Fleury.<\/p>\n
The new company, with headquarters in Singapore, will set up
\n13 bureaus throughout Asia and employ 35 economic journalists. It
\nwill also have access to news published by each of its partners.<\/p>\n
The new service is expected to start in the second quarter of
\n1995.<\/p>",
