        "content": "<p>Asia-Pacific Media Forum to start next week<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia will host the first Asia-Pacific Media Forum (APMF)<br>\nfrom March 13 to March 15 in Tanah Lot, Bali, organized by the<br>\nAssociation of Asia Pacific Advertisement Media.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;During the forum participants will discuss critical issues in<br>\nadvertising media,&quot; the co-chair of the APMF organizing<br>\ncommittee, Gunadi Suharso, said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>With about 350 participants, the two-day event is expected to<br>\nfocus on five objectives: increasing advertising industry<br>\nstandards, improving the understanding among advertising<br>\nindustry players, utilizing the resources within the region,<br>\nproviding networking opportunities for agencies, media,<br>\nadvertisers and researchers, and opening up new business<br>\nopportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Gunadi said the APMF would feature top industry figures as<br>\nspeakers, including Ian Garland of Nielsen Media Research,<br>\nPradeep Guha of Zee Telefilms Ltd. and the global media director<br>\nof Unilever Plc., Alan Rutherford.<\/p>\n<p>The APMF organizers will also invite media specialists, owners<br>\nof media enterprises and related industry professionals to<br>\ndiscuss the changing dynamics in the media industry.<\/p>\n<p>APMF co-chair Baty Subakti said Indonesia had a great deal of<br>\npotential as an advertising market.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We expect advertising expenditures in Indonesia this year to<br>\nreach Rp 26 trillion (US$2.79 billion),&quot; he said. In 2004,<br>\nadvertising expenditures were Rp 20 trillion, he added.<\/p>\n<p>The secretary-general of the APMF, Anindya Bakrie, said the<br>\ngrowth in advertising expenditures was partly the result of the<br>\nabolishment of monopolistic business practices in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said that when companies lost their monopolies they had to<br>\nbegin advertising their products and services in the media.
