        "content": "<p>Asia must open up<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (AP): East Asia must be more open to foreigners if<br>\nthe region is to compete successfully in a global market, a news<br>\nreport Saturday quoted Singapore's political patriarch as saying.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew singled out Japan in particular,<br>\nsaying that although the nation led East Asia's<br>\nindustrialization, it must now try to benefit from outside views.<\/p>\n<p>\"There has to be a fundamental change in cultural attitudes<br>\nbefore Japanese and other East Asians can compete with the<br>\nAmericans,\" Lee was quoted as saying by The Straits Times<br>\nnewspaper.<\/p>\n<p>The United States is at an advantage because its multi-<br>\ncultural heritage allows people of different cultures, races and<br>\nreligions to play on the same corporate team, Lee said.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry<br>\nSingapore, Lee praised Japan's Nissan Motor Co. for accepting a<br>\nmassive cash infusion from France's Renault and inviting \"cost-<br>\nkiller\" Carlos Ghosn to run its operations.<\/p>",
