From 23 to 25 June, more than 20 youth representatives from seven\nsister cities in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and the\nPhilippines visited the cities of Nanning and Qinzhou at the invitation\nof Guangxi\u2019s foreign affairs authorities. During the visit, they\nexplored innovation centres, industrial projects, key infrastructure,\nand vocational education programmes, seeking new opportunities for\npractical cooperation with China.<\/p>\n
An Indonesian proverb left a deep impression on La Ode Muhammad\nFaisal Wikra Kusuma Wardana during his visit to the Guangxi Zhuang\nAutonomous Region in southern China, where he witnessed China\u2019s rapidly\ndeveloping innovation ecosystem and saw first-hand how artificial\nintelligence is being applied in daily life. \u201cThe journey helped me\nbetter understand the meaning behind the proverb,\u201d said Wardana, a\ncultural official from West Java province. \u201cI was very impressed by\nChina\u2019s progress in technological innovation and AI.\u201d<\/p>\n
AI was a highlight of the trip. At the Guangxi-ASEAN Embodied AI\nInnovation Centre, delegates watched robots perform various tasks in\nbanking, retail, and cultural settings, while a barista robot and\ninteractive demonstrations drew enthusiastic participation. At the\nChina-ASEAN AI Innovation Cooperation Centre, they were introduced to\nvarious AI-powered products, including traditional Chinese medicine\ndiagnostic devices, translation glasses, and biomimetic robotic fish.\n\u201cThese experiences showed me the incredible potential of AI,\u201d Wardana\nsaid. \u201cI believe AI will play an increasingly important role in\nimproving human life.\u201d<\/p>\n
The delegation also visited Guangxi Jingui Pulp & Paper Co.,\nLtd., a subsidiary of Indonesia\u2019s Sinar Mas Group under Asia Pulp &\nPaper, where production lines were operating at full capacity. The\ncompany\u2019s premium cardboard products are exported to ASEAN markets for\nuse in packaging pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, consumer goods, and\nelectronic products, reflecting the growing industrial cooperation\nbetween China and Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Myanmar delegate Htet Htet Yi Nway Oo was particularly interested in\nAI applications in healthcare. She said she was impressed after watching\nanother participant try an AI-powered health assessment device that\nanalyses facial features and tongue images to evaluate a person\u2019s health\ncondition. \u201cI believe AI has broad prospects in healthcare, including\nrobots for elderly care,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Four educational institutions\u2014Yangon University of Economics in\nMyanmar, Mariano Marcos State University in the Philippines, Guangxi\nVocational and Technical College of Mechanical and Electrical\nEngineering, and Nanning No.\u00a03 Vocational Secondary School\u2014joined the\nGuangxi International Sister Cities Vocational Education Alliance during\nan exchange event on 25 June, bringing the alliance\u2019s total membership\nto 77.<\/p>\n
Wardana noted that Guangxi\u2019s geographical proximity to ASEAN, along\nwith its ports and transport networks, gives it distinct advantages for\nregional cooperation. He added that the construction of the Pinglu Canal\nis expected to further enhance logistics connectivity and create new\nopportunities for trade and industrial collaboration. The delegates also\nvisited smart ports, industrial zones, and major infrastructure\nprojects, gaining a better understanding of Guangxi\u2019s role in\nstrengthening China-ASEAN connectivity and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n
The visit also yielded tangible results in vocational education.\nAccording to Guangxi\u2019s foreign affairs authorities, the region has\nexpanded cooperation with ASEAN partners in vocational education by\njointly developing training programmes, practical training bases, and\nskills competitions in emerging fields such as AI and the digital\neconomy to cultivate skilled talent for regional development.<\/p>\n
Wardana said vocational education serves as an important bridge for\nshared development.
