        "content": "<p>ASEAN to discuss investment<\/p>\n<p>BANGKOK (AFP): Economic ministers from the Association of<br>\nSoutheast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will focus on investment when<br>\nthey meet on the Thai resort island of Phuket next week, Thai<br>\nofficials said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Thai Board of Investment secretary general Staporn Kavitanon<br>\nsaid the Phuket talks would develop the ASEAN Investment Area<br>\n(AIA) framework announced last year, which aims to speed up free<br>\ntrade and promote investment.<\/p>\n<p>\"Besides stimulating investment in the ASEAN region, this<br>\nmeeting will also encourage the role of the private sectors to<br>\nbecome more involved in investment activities,\" Staporn said.<\/p>\n<p>\"In addition, the meeting will strengthen the ties between<br>\nASEAN investment agencies both at the ministerial level and among<br>\nheads of investment agencies.\"<\/p>\n<p>He said the Phuket meeting would consider the creation of an<br>\nASEAN investment database, joint investment promotions and<br>\ntraining programs for officials, plus a \"liberalization<br>\nprogram\" to reduce or eliminate all restrictions to investment.<\/p>",
